What Is Flexible Stone? MCM Stone Veneer Explained

Flexible stone is a thin, bendable stone veneer made from modified clay material (MCM). It is a lightweight alternative to natural stone that can be applied to curved and flat surfaces. Because it is only a few millimeters thick, flexible stone can wrap around columns, arches and rounded walls that would be impossible to clad with rigid stone panels.

Key Facts

  • Flexible stone is made from modified clay material (MCM), a thin, bendable stone veneer.
  • It is only a few millimeters thick, so it adds almost no structural load.
  • Flexible stone can be applied to curved surfaces, columns and arches.
  • It is lightweight, flexible and available in A1 fireproof grades.
  • NexaDBS offers 34 flexible stone series with 156 products.

How Flexible Stone Is Made

Flexible stone is manufactured by bonding a thin layer of natural stone particles or modified clay to a flexible backing. The result is a sheet material that retains the appearance and texture of stone but can be bent and shaped. Because the stone layer is so thin, the material is lightweight and can be cut with scissors or a utility knife.

Key Properties of Flexible Stone

  • Bendable: can wrap around curves, columns and arches.
  • Thin: only a few millimeters thick, adding minimal load.
  • Lightweight: easy to handle, cut and install.
  • Fireproof: available in A1 fireproof grades for commercial use.
  • Durable: resists cracking and can be used indoors and outdoors.

Where Flexible Stone Is Used

  • Curved feature walls and rounded columns
  • Arches and doorways
  • Furniture and cabinetry surfaces
  • Retail and hospitality interiors
  • Exterior accents and facades

Flexible Stone vs Rigid Stone Panels

Best forCurved and lightweight applicationsLarge flat walls

For flat walls, rigid panels and PU stone are often more economical. Flexible stone shines where curves, weight or thin profiles matter — such as wrapping a column or cladding a curved reception desk.
